Job Summary
Responsible for Atlas engineering activities and performance. Front line management of day engineering technicians (dependant on
mechanical or electrical bias). This role has elements of engineering management and direct ‘on-the-tools’ engineering support. You
will be highly motivated, with a ‘can do’ attitude towards your work, as well as having a degree of flexibility to help meet business needs
and market demands. You will be a major exponent of Health and safety practices, with a strong focus towards work quality and plant
standards. Subject matter expert for Atlas plant and equipment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Facilitating day to day engineering activities with a focus on proactive maintenance activities as well as support on reactive
activities (hands-on electrical and/or mechanical engineering problem solving).
• To understand complex electrical and/or mechanical systems, with the ability to diagnose problems, perform safety & quality risk
assessments and effect repairs quickly and safely.
• Leading the development and implementation of PPM schedules to achieve maximum machine availability and reliability.
• Utilising the site CMMS system for generation, management and scheduling of maintenance activities.
• Technical and hands-on support for breakdowns and the ability to collate breakdown data/information for further analysis and
priority setting.
• Accountability for driving housekeeping and 6S standards and other established working standards.
• Lead key continuous improvement activities such as Problem Solving Reports and Root Cause Analysis.
• Carry out both reactive and proactive maintenance activities across the Melt Shop and Engineered Products site (also known as
Atlas). This includes work on Vacuum Induction Melting Furnaces (VIM), Vacuum Arc Remelting Furnaces (VAR), Electroslag
Remelting Furnaces (ESR), gas fired heat treatment and annealing furnaces, and a variety of other plant and equipment.
• Front line management of the day engineering technicians ensuring adequate site engineering cover and engineering capability
(skills).
• Making effective engineering decisions to prioritise activities, assess the safety and condition of plant and equipment, and
diagnose engineering issues.
• Coach and develop engineering technicians.
• Understanding of electrical systems and be able to diagnose problems/plant faults constructively and accurately.
• Understanding of mechanical systems and be able to diagnose problems/plant faults constructively and accurately.
• Record daily activities and creation of work orders within a CMMS (Agility), as well as using the system to assist with any fault
diagnosis.
• Attend and contribute towards daily and weekly planned maintenance meetings/plant priority reviews.
• Identify/specify and order engineering parts.
• Ensure that all on-stock parts required are booked out correctly and recorded as necessary.
• Work with specialist OEM service engineers where required.
• Work to achieve Key Performance Indicators as set by the business.
• Facilitate lean ways of working to minimise waste and maximise efficiency, ensuring departmental objectives are achieved.
• To participate in training and upskilling activities to help maintain and improve your site and technical knowledge.
• Undertake any other tasks, which are reasonable in relation to the skills, knowledge and experience.
• Permitting of engineering activities.

• Own, plan and deliver maintenance activities during planned outages.
• Responsibility for delivering to agreed financial budgets, with adherence to company financial rules and policy.
• Adhere to standard safe practices and procedures, environmental and legislative requirements.
Skills Experience and Qualifications:
Desirable
• A relevant academic or vocational qualification and/or an appropriate apprenticeship.
• Experience and knowledge in both mechanical and electrical engineering and the willingness to upskill in weaker areas.
• Experience in a supervisory role.
• Experience of furnace mechanics and their control systems.
• Experience of control logic, PLCs and PID theory.
Demonstrable
• Experience within a medium to heavy manufacturing environment.
• Good fault finding and problem-solving skills essential – electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.
• PC literate.
• Good standard of numeracy and literacy.
• Exemplary timekeeping and attendance.
• Demonstrate the ability to work as an individual and as part of a team.
• Ability to articulate own point of view and influence others.
